On March 17-18, 2014, the Science Fiction in Education (SciFiEd) Consortium held its third partner meeting in Pitesti, Romania. During the meeting, the partners discussed the progress of the project, the outcomes to date, and the upcoming work that needs to be completed. Emphasis was placed on the status of the teacher training workshops taking place in each partner country and the next phases of the project, specifically the piloting and implementation phase. The partners were content with the outcomes of the project and the decisions taken as to how the project should move forward. In addition, the final partner meeting and conference to be held in Cyprus in October was discussed.

Teacher training workshops

In the framework of the SciFiEd project, teacher training workshops were completed during the month of March in all the partner countries. In Cyprus, these workshops were held on the 13th, 14th, and 18th of March at the University of Nicosia. The scope of the training workshops was to train teachers in effective cross-curricular introduction of Science Fiction in education. Twenty (20) pre- and in-service teachers participated in the sequence of three (3) training workshops, during which they received both theoretical and practical information as to how SciFi texts can be integrated in the curriculum. By the end of the workshops, teachers created their own series of lesson plans focusing on the integration of SciFi texts in the subjects of Science, Greek literature, Health education, Environmental education, and Design & technology.
